This is a stunning enamel and sterling silver fish. It was made in Taxco, Mexico and is signed ono the back with the conjoined initials JF. It is also marked Sterling Hecho en Mexico 925, and has the Eagle 3 assay stamp. I believe this mark belongs to Jeronimo Fuentes, although I have seen it listed as Jose Federico (Frederico). Fuentes became one of Margot van Voorhies (Margot de Taxco) silversmiths in the 1950s. The enameling on the scales is lovely in shades of green, blue, orange, yellow and a silvery white. From what I have read, I think it is Guilloche enameling using the basse-taille technique. It measures approximately 1 ½ inches long and 1 ¼ inches tall. It closes with a rollover clasp. It weighs .25 ounces on my postage scale, which converts to 7.09 grams.

This brooch is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. There is no enamel loss and the enamel colors are bright and vivid. It does have the tarnishing and patina that forms on silver and I will leave any polishing up to you; you can keep it in the same condition with its original patina or polish it. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This would be perfect for any fish lover. If you collect Mexican jewelry, this is one that you should definitely include. It will look great on a jacket lapel, a dress, scarf and more.
