From the Preface:  In presenting my life to the public with the expectation of receiving its cold criticisms, yet a hope for kind ones, I can only ask it to forbear and read my plea. My first and highest motive is to show to the world that my life was a failure until wisdom from God was given me to make it a success.

The first part of the book tells of the many deep plunges into sorrow that were made when depending upon human strength and judgment. The last part of the story, while full of thrilling experiences, shows that success was obtained by depending upon God alone. 1.4  (#0000964)
