On DVD or VHS: Picture above is of the legendary Great American Trotter, GREYHOUND

A historic form of equine competition, harness racing is an enormously popular sport today. The harness racing horse is the Standardbred, trained to trot or pace at speeds up to 30 m.p.h., or faster. In the U.S., horses and buggies squared off in impromptu races along city streets and country roads. Later harness races became a popular attraction at many country fairs and have grown to one of the country's biggest spectator sports!

This feature touches on the history of this sport from its inception with the great MESSENGER to his great-grandson the eternal sire, HAMBLETONIAN, then to the 20th Century's first and by some, the greatest of them all....DAN PATCH.

A rare treat for all DAN PATCH fans: see rare, archival film footage of DAN PATCH's world record time trial pace in 1906 run in 1:55 plus the $25,000 1/2-mile covered track race footage. This film footage is so rare....you won't see it in any other feature.

Also included is old-time footage of GREYHOUND in the 1935 Hambletonian and a mini newsreel film of him in retirement at age 30 - still looking fit and trim and kicking up his heels in his paddock!

Other great world record performances from champions of the past include mostly entire races of the following: the filly ROSALIND in the 1936 Hambletonian, TEAM TO POLE, FLORLIS, SPEEDY SCOT, MATASTAR, NEVELE PRIDE, SPEEDY CROWN, SUPER BOWL, YANKEE BAMBINO, NOBLE ROGUE, BONEFISH, ZOOT SUIT, STEVE LOBELL, AMBRO REGINA, GREEN SPEED, JAZZ COSMOS, SPEEDY SAMOLLI, FLORIDA PRO, FANCY CROWN, DUENNA, JOIE DEVVIE AMDON, MYSTIC PARK, SPEED BOWL, NIHILATOR, PRAKAS, NAPOLETANO, MACK LOBELL and PEACE CORPS.

A virtual hall-of-fame of some of harness racings most heralded equine athletes can be the latest edition to your racing collection! This feature is a compilation of harness racing footage and the quality varies as the footage was pieced together from tracks around the world from different time periods. A MUST for anyone who loves harness racing or for just anyone who'd like to know more about it.
