On DVD or VHS: SUNDAY SILENCE and EASY GOER's quest for the Triple Crown in 1989.

The year is 1989 and in horse racing there's a hugely attractive duel between opposites; it's the hard-luck story vs. everyone's favorite. It's the incredible tale of SUNDAY SILENCE, the colt who had survived ill health and an almost deadly accident taking on EASY GOER, the regally-bred son of the great ALYDAR, undefeated as a three-year-old in the Spring of 1989 and already considered the heir to SECRETARIAT.

There's a marked contrast also in the men who train these two horses: for EASY GOER it's 37-year-old SHUG McGAUGHEY; for SUNDAY SILENCE it's 76-year-old Hall of Fame Trainer CHARLIE WHITTINGHAM who may have been the only person who didn't consider EASY GOER the hands-down favorite. EASY GOER was such a heavy favorite because he had blown away the field in his Derby tune-ups.

SUNDAY SILENCE was a horse many didn't believe in...a horse that when put up for sale no one wanted - even for $17,000...a horse who overcame an infection and a car trailer crash...a horse who stumbled out of the blocks at the San Felipe Stakes but didn't give up and won the race and who made a statement at the Santa Anita Derby winning by eleven lengths but still at post time of the Derby...a horse who had few believers.

In their first meeting, SUNDAY SILENCE took the Derby impressively by two lengths from EASY GOER who delivered a very lackluster performance, having difficulty getting hold of the track. Despite EASY GOER's loss in the Derby, the consensus was that the weather did-in EASY GOER as he never could take to an off-track - SUNDAY SILENCE may have won the blanket of roses but EASY GOER was still the peoples' champion.

The Preakness delivered one of the best performances in horse race in history, providing all the crucial ingredients of a great race; from the quarter pole the two colts hooked up and battled tenaciously head-to-head with SUNDAY SILENCE just winning by a scant whisker by a bob of the head - it was a stretch finish written in Hollywood!

Recalling EASY GOER's powerful efforts in the first two legs of the Triple Crown, coming into the Belmont was a time of redemption for him; when EASY GOER passed SUNDAY SILENCE with an authoritative driving force at the top of the stretch and SUNDAY SILENCE had nothing left in the tank, EASY GOER stretched out to an 8-length victory in 2:26 - the second fastest time in history. EASY GOER vindicated himself and regained the status and standing that he previously held before the Derby and re-instilled the confidence of the public in him by denying SUNDAY SILENCE the Triple Crown in a most flashy, "in-your-face", finish.

ALL THREE TRIPLE CROWN RACES ARE SHOWN IN THEIR ENTIRETY - FROM START TO FINISH. One of the most memorable and unforgettable racing seasons in history; with interviews of riders PAT DAY and PAT VALENZUELA and commentary by some of the turf's most respected personalities.

The rigors of the Triple Crown is so telling on horses that SUNDAY SILENCE was one of its casualties; he demonstrated such heart and determination that you look for in a champion but EASY GOER would also not be denied his rightful place in history when he showed up on his home turf at Belmont and turned the tables on SUNDAY SILENCE.

AS AN ADDED BONUS...Several countless segments are added at the end of the main feature such as a piece on two-year-old sensation EASY GOER after he wins the 1988 Cowdin Stakes; an interview with Charlie Whittingham on SUNDAY SILENCE right before his run in the 1989 Belmont Stakes; Belmont Stakes previews of both SUNDAY SILENCE and EASY GOER as well as Pat Valenzuela; a segment on SUNDAY SILENCE before his run in the 1989 Swaps Stakes at Hollywood Park; SUNDAY SILENCE's entire run in the 1989 Swaps Stakes losing to PRIZED; an HRTV "Inside Information" segment on Shug McGaughey; an HRTV "Past the Stands" piece on EASY GOER and a nice segment on SUNDAY SILENCE training up to the 1989 San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita with interviews of his exercise rider at the time and how she considered Charlie Whittingham a genius of a trainer - she carries memories of a lifetime of that racing season 1989.

The fairytale that was 1989: SUNDAY SILENCE and EASY GOER...who will forever be remembered as one...so there would be no Triple Crown winners in the 1980's, this after three Triple Crown winners in the 1970's; but the quality of racing hardly diminished as the Preakness of 1989 with its spine-tingling stretch run had been voted the best race of the decade of the 1980's!! A now historic and epic season of rivalry between the immortal EASY GOER and SUNDAY SILENCE can be yours!
