Included shim has double-sided tape on it. It is to be placed in the tripods Quick Release Plate Receptacle (where the QR Plate goes).
At that point, it can be left securely in place and forgotten, and your quick release plate will function normally.

Note: The original Quick Release plate is no longer available, but with this quick release plate and spacer you'll never know the difference.

A quick release plate will attach to the camera's tripod mount and allows you to quickly and easily attach or remove the camera from a compatible tripod without having to waste time fumbling with the threaded mount.
