Hoosier Boy: James Whitcomb Riley

by Minnie Belle Mitchell

The Bobbs-Merrill Co., Presumed First Edition, 1942

Condition: Very Good in Good dust jacket

For many years James Whitcomb Riley was America's favorite poet of childhood.  This novel is based on his Indiana boyhood; it includes supposed ncidents that  influenced his later verse.  Mrs. Mitchell grew up in the same town as Riley, and her hustand was Riley's playmate, so she was knowledgeable about her subject.  There are many silhouette illustratons  accompanying the text. It is a presumed first edition, as no later printings are given.  The book is in generally nice condition; the cover corners are slightly  bumped and there are two other edge bumps. A name and address are stamped on the end papers, and a name is written on the ffep.  The jacket (which has an nice wrap-around illustration) has tearing and creasing along the edges and spine end chipping which affects some print; some staining on back fold;  still, basically intact.  This is an uncommon book.
