Early season garlic harvest!
This is likely the most commonly grown variety in the U.S., and for good reason. It is easy to grow softneck, with a nice mild flavor and excellent storage ability. Cal-Early is one of our "work-horse” varieties we depend on, year after year, for fresh market and garlic braiding. The skins are a nice off-white with a purple blush at times and it produces 4 to 8 cloves per head.

Planting Depth: Plant individual cloves with the scab end down and the pointed end up, one to two inches deep in well-worked beds.
Spacing: 4" apart in same row. Place 36" between separate rows.

When to Plant:Plant 4-6 weeks before frost. Early-mid Spring. Will develop in spring. or plant in spring for mid-late summer harvest.

We are a small family run seed processor that has a long tradition of farming for many generations. I fondly remember my Grandfather telling stories about his Grandfather tilling the earth and the events that impacted his success. The stories bring to life the courage and creativity required to survive capricious weather and market prices. Our history makes it clear that the rewards of farming, including the birthing of the calves, the bounty of a good harvest, and the family's feeling of being rooted in the soil. I still remember with pride, getting to sit on my Grandfathers lap while driving the tractor for the first time during corn harvest.
 
In addition to commercial crops, most family farms also have large gardens to grow much of the food consumed on a farm. Growing your own vegetables, flowers, spices and herbs, canning and freezing were a normal part of life on the farm. We always saved seed from each plant for starting the cycle for the next year. We would like the opportunity to share some of these seeds with you.
