This is a vintage souvenir or toy from Ireland. It is a little horse and cart with the driver sitting on top of the cart.  The horse and the man are made out of plastic and the cart is made from wood. The back of the cart reads “From Ireland”.  The driver is holding the reins in one hand. That arm is moveable and can be raised or lowered, or removed from the body. The other hand is holding a whip (this arm does not move). The seats on the cart move up and down (see photos). The toy measures approximately 5 inches in length and 3 inches in width. This is probably from the 1950s. This is what is called a jaunting car, which is a two-wheeled carriage for a single horse with a seat in the front for the driver. It was a typical conveyance for persons in Ireland.

This piece has some issues as you can see by the enlarged photographs. It could use a good cleaning and there is some damage to the harness. I did not want to risk discoloring or ruining the finish of the driver or the horse by trying to clean it. I’ll leave that up to you. I took a close up of the horse so you can see that the red harness or saddle band is broken. The horse also has some stains that look like dye from the red band and the wood bars. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe. This is being sold AS IS!, hopefully someone will restore it and give it a good home.

It would be a nice addition to anyone’s collection of vintage toy horses, carts, or toys. It is a fun surprise gift for someone’s favorite Bartender or owner of an Irish Pub.

It will be double boxed for safety when sent as it is a delicate piece. For more information about me and booth policies, click on Starfisher’s Stars at the top of this page, it will take you to the main page of my booth. Thanks for visiting!
