Hi and welcome to Robin's Nest! This is a great collectible shot glass from Memphis, Tennessee's famous Peabody Hotel! The Peabody sits in the heart of Memphis and is a magnificent historic, luxury hotel, built in 1869. Jefferson Davis lived there in 1870. It has been said that the "Mississippi Delta begins in the lobby of the Peabody and ends on Catfish Row in Vicksburg".

The Legend of the Peabody Ducks: Back in the 1930's, Peabody General Manager Frank Schutt and friend Chip Barwick returned from a hunting trip to Arkansas. They had a little too much Jack Daniels and thought it would be funny to place some of their live duck decoys (legal back then) into the beautiful Peabody fountain, located in the lobby. Three small English call ducks were selected and the public reaction was enthusiastic. Soon they were replaced by five North American mallards.

In 1940, bellman Edward Pembroke, former circus animal trainer, started bringing the ducks to the fountain each day and taught them the now-famous Peabody Duck March. Pembroke became the Peabody Duckmaster and served for 50 years until he retired in 1991.

The original ducks are long gone but the Peabody ducks still grace the lobby fountain daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This shot glass is approximately 2-1/4" high x 2" across the mouth. The gold graphics on the front and ducks around the sides are clear; the gold around the top rim has worn off almost completely but is still noticeable. This glass is in good used condition with no chips or cracks. A wonderful collector's item!
