Botanically, Manjakani (also called Majuphal) is Quercus Infectoria. It is also known with names like GALL TREE, GALL OAK, MASIKAI, MAGIC NUT and ALEPPO OAK. In ayurvedic medicine, it is very important medicinal plant, which is useful for its astringent action. It helps in diarrhoea, leucorrhoea, uterine prolapse, rectal prolapse, irritable bowel syndrome, and for tightening the loose or sagging tissues. For therapeutic purposes, Manjakani, also called Majuphal, is used.

 

Majuphal is formed on the leaves of the Oaktree and is known as oak galls. There are generally two types of Majuphala white gall Majuphala and green gall Majuphala.


Majuphal is useful in wound healing due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It reduces the risk of skin infection due to its antibacterial property. It also has an astringent property that constricts the skin cells or tissues and helps in skin tightening.


As per Ayurveda, gargling with Majuphal decoction reduces inflammation of the throat and manage tonsilitis. It also prevents bleeding in gums and gives a cooling and soothing effect due to its Kashaya (astringent) and Sita (cold) properties.

Leucorrhea
Majuphal helps to control the symptoms of leucorrhea when used internally. Leucorrhea is a thick, whitish discharge from the female genitals. According to Ayurveda, leucorrhea is due to an imbalance of Kapha dosha. Majuphal shows a good result in leucorrhea because of its Kashaya (astringent) property. It helps to control aggravated Kapha and reduce the symptoms of leucorrhea.

Piles
Piles are known as Arsh in Ayurveda. It is mainly caused by an unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyle and leads to the impairment of all the three doshas, mainly Vata. An aggravated Vata causes a low digestive fire, leading to constipation. This causes swelling in the veins of rectum area leading to piles mass. Majuphal gives relief in swelling of pile mass and also controls bleeding because of its Kashaya(astringent) property.
