The Chinese/Okinawan art of Pangai Noon Uechi Ryu originated from the close range fighting styles of the Tiger, Dragon and Crane in the legendary land of Fukien province, China. Like its Okinawan counterparts such as Goju, Shorin and Isshin Ryu, Pangai Noon Uechi Ryu is classically taught in the strict zen fashion of little explanation and much repetition.

Mark Stewart started his Uechi Ryu training at the age of thirteen under Sensei William Keith and is now one of the youngest 5th dans in the world of the Pangai Noon Uechi Ryu family under Sensei James Thompson.

In this two DVD series, Uechi Ryu Sensei Mark Stewart, sheds some light on the much talked about and little shown hidden motions of kata as well as the training drills that bring them to their fruition.

The famous Okinawan Iron Body training drills are known as arm rubbing and arm pounding. These drills executed in a hard fashion, condition the arms to withstand one blow and to penetrate any defense. Executed in a soft fashion, they develop sensitivity of touchand forward energy and the ability to flow and follow up. This training is best described as touch reference training.

PART 2: In Training Drills, Sensei Stewart teaches a variety of training drills including sticky hands, wauke flow drills, wauke forward energy training and segmenting the limbs. This training package highlights close-in fighting with sweeps, elbows, knees and takedowns, and stresses the defensive and offensive use of the wauchi/uke circular strike and block. 1993.
