One day I found myself without inspiration, and pulled a book at random with the goal to find something to wake up my artistic muse. What I chose was a book on the art of Mary Cassatt, and I mentally groaned when I found that all she did was people - my weak point! But I had determined that whatever I chose would be my source of inspiration, and when I leafed through the book, I came across her "Child in a Straw Hat" and settled on that. I surprised myself in getting a good resemblance to that painting, and a portrait that feels fairly realistic.

My artwork is mounted on foam core, which creates a light-weight but rigid piece with a wire for hanging and  a felt backing. It is treated with a sun-block spray, although prolonged exposure to direct sunlight may eventually cause fading.
