More details about this item

We are happy to be able to offer for your consideration this lovely color view, white bordered, Linen postcard of the Wauregan Hotel in Norwich, CT, published in 1946 by Curt Teich. Curt Teich, better known as Curteich, of Chicago, was the largest printer of postcards in America and they were in business from 1893 until 1974. They made postcards for their own distribution network as well as for many other publishes throughout the U.S. and Canada. The Wauregan Hotel building was built in the 1850's and underwent several re-modellings as a hotel, until the mid-1970's. The building went into serious decline until the middle of the 1990's when it was boarded up and an entire new set of renovations begun. The old run-down building was completely gutted and re-fitted with modern accoutrements while still having that late 19th century appeal to its exterior. It was re-opened in the late summer of 2006 as an upscale apartment building, still retaining the name Wauregan Building. The front of this card features a view of the Wauregan as it appeared in 1946, as a hotel. It stands on a busy corner of Norwich with both foot and vehicular traffic visible in this view. The bottom center bears the inscription, "Wauregan Hotel -- Norwich, Conn.". In the bottom right corner is the Curteich ware number, "6B-H2179" The back of this card is a divided back card with the publisher's info as the division. At the top left is a brief description of the Wauregan, its services and its address. The stamp box contains a faded version of the Curteich ware number, "6B-H2179" at the bottom of the box. This card is in good condition with foxing apparent in a number of spots around the white border of the front as well as the address area of the back. The corners are crisp and sharp and the postcard has not been used in the mail and there is no writing anyplace on this postcard. This postcard will be an excellent addition to your collection of card views of Norwich, CT, hotels of Connecticut, advertising postcards of America and postcards that were published by Curt Teich of Chicago.
