Depression era Miracle Food. 1930s Horlick's Malted Milk Bottle. Tall Heavy Glass Jar Embossed with circled logo: Horlick's Malted Milk, Trade Mark, M. M. Racine Wis - U.S.A. Slough, Bucks, Eng. This bottle is probably from the 1930's. Size: about 11 inches tall; base 5.5 inches diameter; top 3 inches diameter Weighs about 3 pounds unpacked. Condition: Excellent. No chips or cracks. Thick, heavy glass jar. Light gray tint. Horlick's Malted Milk, a powder to be mixed with water, was practically known as a miracle food. First developed as a health food for infants and invalids. Two brothers from England, James and William Horlick, invented malted milk in Racine, Wisconsin. Trademarked "malted milk" in 1887. Since it was lightweight, non-perishable, and high-calorie, the Horlick Company received publicity from explorers carrying their malted milk on treks worldwide, as to Antartica in 1933.
