Item description

STEELE OF THE ROYAL MOUNTED (Philip Steele of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police) BY James Oliver Curwood 1925 (Copyright 1918) FIRST PHOTOPLAY EDITION A. L. Burt and Co. New York Hardcover, 307 pages First Photoplay Edition Illustrated with scenes from the film starring Bert Lytell and Stuart Holmes. Steele of the Royal Mounted tells the old story of a young man, Philip Steele (Bert Lytell), who joins the Canadian Royal Mounted following a broken engagement. He is charged with capturing a notorious gambler (Stuart Holmes) and does so with dispatch. Along the way, Steele's former girlfriend returns to beg his forgiveness for past indiscretions. Although not totally unfamiliar with the great outdoors, stage and screen leading man Bert Lytell was better known for more topical melodramas. The producer of this film, Vitagraph, was soon gobbled up by the burgeoning Warner Bros. A scarce photoplay title of this classic tale of the Canadian Royal Mounted. Although the copyright date is 1918, the film is from 1925, and so is this edition. BOOK CONDITION/DESCRIPTION: No Jacket. 8vo - over 7Â" - 9Â" tall. Blue-green cloth hardcover with title in gilt on front, also on spine. Title on spine rubbed appearing now as if in blind. Spine end and corner wear. A couple of small spot stains on board. Hinges loose but holding well. Binding intact. Name/address in pencil on I/S front cover and FFEP. Title page nearly loose, otherwise interior very good with only occasional smudge. Scarce.

Minimum 6 characters; at least one number and one capital letter
