Item description

19th Century Hand Drawn Folded Paper Envelope Cover, open measures 7 7/8 x 6 1/8 inches, folded measures 4 x 2 inches, bonded paper marked “Durand …”, blue lined, probably mid 1800’s, probably American, minor soiling and staining from age, small hole through paper from nib, remnants of wax seal, this is a cover that was meant to be hand delivered and not sent through the post as there is no address, it is a single sheet of paper that has been folded to make an envelope and flap, the calligraphy is quite elaborate on the front with the name of the recipient “Estella Elizabeth Avery” along the center vein of a leaf, decorative marks go all the way to the edge, the flap where the senders address would have gone has a stick figure of a man done in a very primitive style with hatch marks all around the figure, on the torso is written “Henry”, there is no writing on the reverse, and this envelope may have held a token or a message on another paper, it was sealed in red wax and broken open, the ink is similar to ink used in the early to mid 1800’s, a very unusual piece of folk art, would look nice framed. Sales Tax to be paid by NY Residents. US shipping via 1st Class Mail. International shipments are via USPS 1st Class International with full value declaration. Please note: International packages are shipped with accurate customs declarations, and buyer is responsible for any Customs Duty. Buyer assumes full responsibility for lost or damaged packages shipped to countries where insurance is not available through USPS or Shipsaver.
