As a child, Torre dealt with domestic violence in his home, and in 2003, he decided to start a foundation to educate people about the issue. My visibility as Yankee manager has given us a lot more opportunities to talk to people, said Torre during the season. Domestic violence is something that has been under lock and key for the longest time, and I didn't realize how widespread it was until we started talking about it. Torre's foundation held several events in 2004, including its second annual fundraiser dinner as well as a golf outing at Trump National Golf Club in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. Among the participants joining Torre were Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford and Sandy Koufax. The event, which also included a silent auction for sports memorabilia and a live auction for a Mercedes SLK, raised more than 545,000. The Yankees also helped Torre's foundation on the field as part of Samsung's Four Seasons of Hope program. Torre joined Arnold Palmer, Boomer Esiason and Magic Johnson in the Four Seasons of Hope, and during the baseball season, Circuit City donated 1,000 to Torre's foundation for every home run hit by the Yankees, who set the franchise record with 242 homers. Biography After Sandy Koufax finally tamed his blazing fastball, he enjoyed a five-year stretch as perhaps the most dominating pitcher in the game's history. He won 25 games three times, captured five straight ERA titles and set a new standard with 382 strikeouts in 1965. His fastball and devastating curve enabled him to pitch no-hitters in four consecutive seasons, culminating with a perfect game in 1965. He posted a 0.95 ERA in four career World Series, leading the Dodgers to three championships.
