Item description

We are pleased to offer for your consideration this magnificent, sunset view of the Walnut Lane Bridge in Philadelphia, PA on an early divided back, full bleed postcard. This card was made to celebrate the opening of this fantastic bridge which, at the time, was the longest concrete span in the World. The Walnut Lane Bridge is a concrete arch bridge located in Northwest Philadelphia that connects the Germantown and Roxborough neighborhoods across the Wissahickon Creek in Fairmount Park. The bridge was begun in 1906 and opened to traffic in 1908. The front of this card features a gorgeous side view of the Bridge at dusk with a brilliant orange and red sunset in the back ground. The gleaming white concrete of the bridge is a nice contrast to the darkness of the forest of the Wissahickon Creek valley floor. The top bears the inscription, "Walnut Lane Bridge, Longest Concrete Span in the World, Philadelphia, Pa." The back is an Early Divided Back Postcard with 2/3 devoted to the address and only 1/3 for a brief message. This card is in excellent condition with the lower right corner having a small spot of exfoliation and an eve tuner spot about an inch above that. There is a bit of foxing on the back, as well. The card has never been posted in the mail. This card will be an excellent addition to any collection of bridge views, views of Philadelphia, and views of Pennsylvania rivers and streams.
