He grew up in an art family as his mother, uncle, and great-grandmother were painters, another was an internationally known music composer, and received his BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1977. He has been creating silkscreen prints, photographs, paintings, drawings, collages and fine art prints for more than 30 years. He was a pioneer in digital imaging using Apple Macintosh computers, starting in 1985. His work has been included in juried exhibitions and resided in private collections. Stephen was chosen by the NASA Arts Program to create a piece of art to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. Our Archival Matte Paper Our premium archival matte paper is a heavy-duty 8.3 mils thick, weighing 180 g/sm. This is a very bright white paper with high opacity. It renders very rich blacks and bright colors while maintaining a vintage look. Being a matte paper, glare is almost non-existant. Our Digital Printing Process Our images are generated from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality inks onto premium archival matte paper. Utilizing a professional 7-Color ink-jet printer, this printing process is designed to offer a large, bright color gamut while achieving archivability of over 100 years in gallery conditions. The process provides better color accuracy than other means of reproduction and quality that rivals traditional silver-halide and gelatin printing processes. This process produces the same prints commonly found in museums, art galleries, and photographic galleries. Epson UltraChrome ink technology represents state-of-the-art inkjet printing, producing archival prints with amazing color fidelity, gloss level, and scratch resistance, while providing stable colors. Incorporating high density pigments, Epson UltraChrome produces prints with an extremely wide color gamut allowing the reproduction of colors that were originally envisioned at the point of capture. With its expanded color gamut and breakthrough 7-color system, no other ink set can reproduce the three dimensional lifelike quality and stunning photographic feel of Epson UltraChrome. Care of Premium Archival Matte Paper Prints These prints are shipped in a durable tube. The printed surface of the Premium Matte Paper is relatively durable, resistant to fingerprints and moisture. The ink is not water soluble. That said, you should handle these prints with care as they may be susceptible to scuffing in heavy black areas. Subtly appearing while the print lies flat, this phenomenon is minimized when the print is viewed on a wall. For maximum life we recommend framing with UV protecting glass or Plexiglas and avoiding placement of the print in direct sunlight. Page Size Specifications The sizes listed on this site are nominal measurements of the substrate (paper) on which the artwork is printed. The image, itself, is always smaller than the size of the substrate. Images will be smaller than the page size specified. All page sizes represent nominal standards; they are not precise measurements. Images are not guaranteed to be precisely centered on the page. Different images have different aspect ratios (different shapes), so for the same nominal page size, they may have different actual image and paper sizes. As a consequence of the above, frames and mattes should be purchased after you receive your prints, and you are able to size them precisely. The paper will have approximately one inch of white unprinted margin to aid in handling and framing. What is a Giclee print The Definition: Giclee (zhee-klay) - The French word "giclรฉe" means a spray or a spurt of liquid. The word may have been derived from the French verb "gicler" meaning "to squirt". The term "giclee print" connotes an elevation in printmaking technology. Images are generated from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality inks onto various substrates. The giclee printing process provides better color accuracy than other means of reproduction. Giclee prints are created typically using professional 7-Color ink-jet printers. Among the manufacturers of these printers are vanguards such as Epson. These modern technology printers are capable of producing incredibly detailed prints for both the fine art and photographic markets. The quality of the giclee print rivals traditional silver-halide and gelatin printing processes and is commonly found in museums, art galleries, and photographic galleries.
