Item description

16th and 17th Century Embroidered Hangings Another Quality Print from Martin2001 Type of print: Lithograph - Original antique print Year of printing: 1874 Artist - Engraver - Publisher: Albert Racinet - n/a - Imp. Firmin Didot Condition: Excellent - Very good - Good - Fair Size of print in inches: 10.5 x 15.5 (27 x 39 cm) Type of paper: Thick - Heavier, matte finish - Medium heavy - Thin Reverse side: Blank - With text or pictures Notes: Green color around the print in the photo is a contrasting background on which the print was photographed. Legend: The examples given in our plate have been obtained from two different sources. Nos. 1 and 2. Collection of M. Bouvier, painter. In these two fragments, brought from Genoa, the embroidery is of cloth on a ground of the same material and the borders alone are of silk. No. 3. Collection of M. Leclercq, dealer in curiosities, Paris. In the third example, the ground is of silk figured with violet on violet (Lyons style) and the embroideries are in yellow satin. It is from Milan. The designs, which are of great firmness, are remarkable for their powerful relief, which would almost render them fit subjects for ornamental sculpture. They are worthy of the best masters of the time. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin2001 Satisfaction Guaranteed Policy !
