Item description

Conqueror of the Highroad by Hugh McAlister 1930 Saalfield Conqueror of the Highroad Hugh McAlister A Story of a Boy's Indomitable Persistence in the Field of Automobile Development The Saalfield Publishing Company Copyright 1930 252 pages Black and white frontispiece The hinges are weakening, the binding is in acceptable condition. The pages are clean but lightly tanned and there is a store sticker on the rear end paper. The cover is rubbed and has a small amount of edge wear. The spine is faded and the rear cover has a small dent on the outer edge. Acceptable. Hardcover. Chapter 1 The Try-Out: "Cut her down Sam. We're going like blue blazes!" There was a strained look on Chunky Newsome's usually placid face. "Can't!" Sam Randall's mouth was set in a grim line. "Something's stuck." As if pursued by a demon pack, the crude, homemade automobile scurried over the rutty country road, its lightweight body and iron rimmed wheels vibrating at every bump. The water was boiling madly.
