Following the death of his parents in 1898 young Jamie Dillion Delaney arrives at the famous resort, Pertle Springs, near Warrensburg, Missouri. The resort (including the Minnewawa Hotel) , owned by his grandfather, Colonel James Terrence Dillon, had been his mother's home until her elopement with a Shakespearean actor. The Colonel has never forgiven his daughter; he is not aware of her death or the fact that he has a grandson. The confrontation between the proud old man and the equally spirited boy, who eschews his grandfather's name in favor of the nickname Dandy, sets the stage for adventure, mystery, and intrigue. The authentic setting and the vividly drawn characters---the aunts T'any and Terza, handyman and trusted friend Nippy, Cousin Owsley, black servant and confidant Walker, and the sinister housekeeper Hannah, make for exciting reading for the young and the not-so-young. From the Author......... Though the story and characters are fiction, Pertle Springs is real and at one time existed as it show in these pages at Warrensburg, Missouri. It was a famous resort owned by my grandfather, J. H. Christopher, and operated through the years 1887-1925, with the land remaining in the family until 1959. And it was here that such powerful figures as Billy Sunday, Carrie Nation, Buffalo Bill, and William Jennings Bryan came. It was the scene of the famed Democratic state convention in 1895 when silver and the ratio of 16-1 were decided upon. More.........
