Item description

Hi there! Welcome to my auction. I'm so glad you decided to drop in. Please feel free to look around and also don't forget to check out my other auctions. I have loads of Children books along with many adult books to sell and you never know what else might get listed along the way. Enjoy your Stay! PLEASE NOTE: Books typically do not have unsafe amounts of lead in them but be fully advised that my books have not been tested and if you have a concern, please do not buy from me and/or let any child under 13 access to my books. Thank you. Hardcover: 400 pages Publisher: Forge Books; 1st edition (May 16, 2003) Language: English ISBN-10: 0765304716 ISBN-13: 978-0765304711 Product Dimensions: 9.6 x 6.5 x 1.3 inches The names Wilbur and Orville Wright stand out in history as the inventors of the airplane, but lost in history are those who in the closing years of the nineteenth century and the first years of the twentieth shared the same passion: to develop the first powered aircraft. Some spent entire lives and fortunes chasing the dream, including men like the embittered Augustus Herring, who'd flown a heavier than air machine for several seconds in 1898; the pompous Samuel Pierpont Langley, of the Smithsonian Institution, who was backed by the US War Department, and even the legendary American inventor Alexander Graham Bell. These men, along with European competitors such as Louis Bleriot, chased what many believed to be the impossible dream of manned, powered flight. But the Wright Brothers were the first to succeed, thanks to a combination of courage, genius, and downright stubbornness! Many followed in their footsteps, including such arch-competitors as Glenn Curtiss. The Wright Brothers' father was a huge factor who dominated their lives, trying to control their every thought and action. A bishop of the United Brethren Church, Milton Wright wanted his sons to succeed in their bicycle shop in Dayton, Ohio, not risk their lives. Bishop Wright saw no reason for his sons to risk everything on an isolated, windy beach in faraway North Carolina a beach called Kitty Hawk. He tried to quash their dream, but Orville and Wilbur rebelled, ultimately proving the impossible by flying on December 17, 1903. They brought the dawn of aviation, the industry that dominated the twentieth century and set the stage for the space race. This is a new hardcovered book with its Dustjacket which is in very good condition. Keep in mind that this is a novel and is considered fiction. The book originally sold for 24.95. Shipping and handling costs (within the US) are 3.75. Insurance is optional for an additional 2.00. PLEASE NOTE: ALL pictures used are of the actual book. I try to describe any imperfections or damage that I see. I sell books as a hobby, I am nowhere near an expert so please ask questions. PLEASE NOTE: I COMBINE SHIPPING ON MULTIPLE ITEMS WON AND PAID FOR TOGETHER. THE MORE YOU WIN, THE LESS YOUR SHIPPING PER ITEM WILL COST. ANY AUCTIONS WON AND PAID FOR TOGETHER THAT TOTAL 25.00 OR MORE WILL BE SHIPPED FOR FREE. Amazon has raised their min to 35.00 but I am keeping mine at 25.00 and it is for all books not just selected ones. Come check out my auctions!! The book will be sent media mail unless you want something faster. I typically can only ship on the weekends due to working so much. Please let me know if you need it faster. Thanks! PLEASE NOTE: It is important that you ask questions before you bid. I do my best to list things as accurately as possible but I sometimes forget something.
