Item description

We are pleased to offer for your consideration this black and white, Real Photo Postcard view of the Summit of Hogbrush Mt. on the Molly Stark Trail in Marlboro, VT which was developed on EKC Photo Postcard stock sometime between 1930 and 1950. Actually, this Mt name is misspelled and the true name is Hogback Mt. Sixteen miles to the west of Brattleboro, over the Molly Stark Trail to Bennington, the former town's most impressive contribution to winter sport is growing on the ridge of Hogback Mountain. The hill, with an elevation of 2100 feet, lies well within Vermont's area of greatest snowfall. An average of 120 inches is laid down upon it each winter and it was a favorite ski hill in the 1940's and 1950's. It was also a favorite pace to hike and enjoy the wonders of nature during the warmer months. The Molly Stark Trail follows the path carved out in 1777 when, after the Battle of Bennington, General John Stark and his army returned to New Hampshire via the nearest passage, essentially the same track as todayโ€™s Vermont Route 9 and has been renamed the Molly Stark Scenic Byway. The front of this card features a faded view from the summit of the summit building and the overhanging ski lift platform. The valley floor below can be made out and is heavily wooded in this view. The lower right bears the inscription, "Summit of Hogbrush (sic) Mt." on the first line and, "Molly Stark Trail R 9" on the 2nd line and, "Marlboro, Vt" on the third line. There is a ware number, "93A" under that. The back of the card is a divided back card with no division line. The stamp box is a EKC stamp box and the Photographic stock was made between 1930 and 1950. This card is very faded from exposure to light and age. however the corners are crisp and sharp and yellowing from age is at a minimum. This card will be a nice addition to your RPPC collection of views of Mountains, Vermont, Marlboro VT, and views along the Molly Stark Trail/Scenic Byway.
