Item description

Elaine Slater’s BOOK OF NEEDLEPOINT PROJECTS, with illustrations by Lisa Levitt, photographs by Jim Chambers and designed by Betty Binns; copyright 1978 by Elaine Slater. Published by Holt, Rinehart and Winston, New York, ISBN 0-03-017516-X. Hardcover, with dust jacket. Stated First Edition. 8 OE" x 10 OE" - 190 pages with an eight-page insert of color photographs; directions and patterns are illustrated by b/w drawings. Elaine Slater is the author of The New York Times Book of Needlepoint Book is in good condition â“ some light soiling and staining along cover’s edges; green spine lettering still bright â“ no inscriptions or markings on pages. Unclipped dust jacket has a tear of about 2" on top spine with a few other minor tears along top edge. From the jacket: Ms. Slater has divided the projects into four distinct sections: Working from a Painted Canvas: She shows how to work creatively from a bought canvas through color effects and different textures. You can create the fur on a jacket, the tweed on a coat, and the blossom on a flower. Tracing Your Own Design: Take your favorite record cover â“ for example, the BetteMidler record, trace it on canvas, and, with needlepoint, reproduce the famous drawing in exact color. Working on Blank Canvas: You can devise your own design or use one suggested in the book, such as a natural white wool Irish Village Pillow with a selection of textured stitches, or a geometric sampler. Working from Graphs: Here, you can count stitches from already prepared graphs. Make alphabet bolsters, chair seats, a floral rug, or, if you prefer, graph your own design for counting. All the techniques for working the canvas are described in impeccable detail with beautiful line drawings of the finished projects and of the instructions for making them.
