Item description

English Doll Houses of the 18th 19th Centuries book Vivien Greene author B T Batsford London 1955 Hard Bound 9 X 12 inches 224 pages indexed Fully illustrated with photographs in black and white Includes dollhouses, room settings and furniture, other miniatures, ect. A very nice book. It contains a description of Beatrix Potter's dolls' house, as well as Denton Welch's, with quotations from his journals on its restoration. This book is the classic history of dollhouses, describing how the houses and their furnishings developed and changes over two centuries. The second half of the book provides detailed information on the conposition and history of the illustrated pieces. Unfortunately out-of-print, this is a must-have for dollhouse collectors. โ€œThis book showcases the author's own collection, "perhaps the largest private collection of English antique dolls' houses," she herself being regarded as "perhaps the greatest authority on the subject." Over one hundred houses are featured, with "specially commissioned photographs" and "descriptions [which] capture the beauty and style of the houses, which she demonstrates convincingly to be true relfections of the architectural attitudes of their periodโ€ CONDITION: Dust jacket has small tears on the edges. The flyleaves have stains where someone used scotch tape. The book has light soil and there are some rubs on the top of the front cover. POSTAGE: US- media mail Canada overseas, please ask for a quote if the calculator looks unreasonable. See BOOTH DETAILS under my store logo for our complete policies. Some Highlights: WE ARE GLAD TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS! We are glad to combine postage. PAYMENT- We accept money orders, personal checks, Google Checkout, Amazon Payments Paypal. CONDITION- Our scanner makes colors a little lighter, sometimes yellow, and adds streaks, especially on old paper. We have lightly tinted windows, which may alter the colors slightly when we use a camera. Vintage items will show some age, and we will try to note any and all defects. An item described, as "excellent", can be perfect or have minor flaws, from age, and that I feel any collector would be glad to have. If you have any question on condition, please ask.
