Item description

FROM ALPHABET SOUP TO W.P.A. NUTS by Byron Hunt Maynard Miller, Publisher Second Printing, Feb. 1939 Condition: Very Good to Near Fine in Good dust jacket Do you remember the CWA? The LUP? The NYA? The NEC? (Of course. I'm assuming you were around in the 1930s!) Newspaperman Byron Hunt watched the growth of the Alphabetical Bureaus which overlapped and duplicated and, according to hunt, "add to the mounting national debt which today perils whatever plans may be laid for social security in the future". (UPDATE: SOCIAL SECURITY HAS SURVIVED -- SO FAR!!!) But it's still fun to read the author's reflections on these plans, written with wit and satire.. This scarce copy has slight corner bends, a small scratch on the front cover, a tiny bump on the top of some page edges and a bit of other minor wear, with toned pages. The jacket has tears, some small chips and two small red stains on the back cover. As they might have said in 1939, this book is A-OK!
