Item description

We are pleased to offer for your consideration this black and white postcard view of the Colosseum in Rome, published by the Italian publisher, Gustavo Modiano on a White border postcard. Gustavo Modiano Co was in business from 1902 until about 1920 and they published books, posters, and postcards. The Roman Colosseum was started in 72 AD under the emperor Vespasian and was completed in 80 AD under Titus, with further modifications being made during Domitian's reign (81โ€“96). It could seat up to 50,000 and was the focal for Roman entertainment for several centuries during the Roman Empire era. Today, it is one of the most visited attractions of visitors to Rome and one of the most photographed sites in Rome. The front of this card features a black and white view of the structure with a white border. At the bottom center, in Italian, is the caption, "ROMA - Il Colosseo" Trans., "Rome - The Colosseum". The back is a divided back postcard with a dotted line as the division and at the bottom of the division is the Gustavo Modiano Logo. The address bears the characteristic 4 lined doted address with the third line further underlined in bold. The Modiano ware number "207-26" appears at the bottom left of the back. The card is postmarked, 1925. This card is in excellent condition with two corners having slight creasing and significant yellowing from age. This item will be the perfect addition to your collection of Black and White views of Italy, Rome, Roman ruins, Gustavo Modiano postcards and old postcard views from European publishers.
