Item description

We are pleased to offer for you consideration this lovely, Full Bleed, Linen Postcard view of the Million Dollar Pier at St. Petersburg, FL which was published by the Hartman Card Co. of Pinellas Park, FL. The world famous Million Dollar Pier lived up to its legacy when it opened in 1926. The Million Dollar Pier was dedicated on Thanksgiving Day in 1926, with ceremonies attended by more than 10,000 people. The Mediterranean-revival casino style building featured a central atrium, an open-air ballroom with terrazzo floors on the rooftop and an observation deck costing 998,279.18. The Pier remained popular in the years to come as a gathering place for card games, tourist meetings, community sings and fishing tournaments. Trolley tracks from downtown came into the casino and the trolleys parked under the portico. In late 1967, the 40-year-old, badly deteriorated building was demolished. A park was established temporarily while the present day pier buildings were being constructed. The front of this card features a lovely colorful view of the pier taken from the perspective of the Vinoy Park Hotel, across the bay. The top center bears a 3 line description which reads, "A Beautiful View showing building at end of Million Dollar Pier, St. Petersburg,Florida, from Vinoy Park Hotel.". This description follows the Hartman series number, "60". The back of the postcard is a divided back card with the publisher's info as the division. At the bottom of the division is the Hartman,Palm Tree Logo. the top center bears the Hartman ware number, E-4395. This card is in Near Mint condition with clean, crisp and sharp corners, no creasing, and no yellowing or foxing from age. The card was never posted in the mail and has no writing on it at all. This card will be the perfect addition to your collection of Florida resorts and hotels, St Petersburg mementos, and Hartman postcards.
