Item description

High Inside by R. G. Emery 1948 HCDJ Famous Sports Stories High, Inside! R. G. Emery New York: Grosset Dunlap Copyright 1948 208 pages The binding is in good condition, the pages are clean but lightly tanned and there is a gift inscription dated 1952 written on the front end paper. The blue tweed cover has some light edge wear. The jacket is scuffed and edge worn and has a small loss at the spine bottom. Good in acceptable dust-jacket. Hardcover. Cleve Coleman wound up his college career with a no-hit, no-run game. Big-league scouts were in the stands watching. So was Cleve's father, proud of his son's ability. Praise from him was important to Cleve for he had been a great shortstop in his day. Now he was just another old-timer, living on the meager pay of a small coaching job. But Cleve was determined he would never let that happen to him. He was going to play ball strictly for the financial return. "Son," his father said, "there's more to baseball than just money." Cleve didn't believe him. He went to the Pacific Coast League and made a deal that put him in the big money. Everything looked rosy. But things began to happen in a way he had never expected. He hurt his pitching arm. He went up to the major league and was knocked out of the box - knocked right out of baseball. Then he understood what his father meant. In this thrilling story of modern baseball, you will find out how Cleve fought his way back to success. (#000057)
