Item description

Here for your delectation is the SPECTACULAR RARE-------------LIFE'S HANDICAP: BEING STORIES OF MINE OWN PEOPLE by Rudyard Kipling. From the Preface: These tales have been collected from all places, and all sorts of people, from priests in the Chubara, from Ala Yar the carver, Jiwun Singh the carpenter, nameless men on steamers and trains round the world, women spinning outside their cottages in the twilight, officers and gentlemen now dead and buried, and a few, but these are the very best, my father gave me. The greater part of them have been published in magazines and newspapers, to whose editors I am indebted; but some are new on this side of the water, and some have not seen the light before. The most remarkable stories are, of course, those which do not appear -- for obvious reasons. AUTHOR BIO Rudyard Kipling Rudyard Kipling was the creator of short stories, poetry, and novels. In 1907 he became the first English writer to win the Nobel Prize, although much of his writing for adults has since been labeled imperialist, fascist, and racist. Kipling was born to English parents and lived in India until he was 6 years old. At that time, he was sent to England, where he lived with a foster family, although he made frequent trips back to India. He married an American woman with whom he moved to the United States, where he wrote some of his best-known works for children including "The Jungle Book" and "Kim". He eventually returned to England where he wrote "Just So Stories". He wrote his last book for children, "Rewards and Fairies", in 1910--many believe that the death of his daughter, Josephine, may have been a factor in this decision. He won the Nobel Prize in literature in 1907. NOTE: Opposite the title page, the publisher put a logo with Kipling's name and a swastika! (How bizarre?!) You are bidding on the only stated Doubleday Edition from 1917 (gasp!). Other than a hint of wear at the top of the spine, and a name and stamp on the inside cover, both the cover and the book are in excellent condition. There are no rips, tears, markings, etc.---and the pages and binding are tight as a drum (see photo). Check my feedback to see that I sell exactly as I describe. I gladly accept PayPal and as preferable forms of payment (no personal checks!). Paypal is an acceptable alternative. I will ship internationally for additional charges. So bid soon and often for this magnificent, impossible-to-find LITERARY COLLECTIBLE. *note: if a book is listed as a first edition, it is either described as "stated" (specific words or number line) or "only stated" (only mentioned edition) WANT TO SEE MORE??
