Item description

We are happy to be able to offer for your consideration this nice view of the Henry Hudson Hotel in New York city published by Lumitone Photoprint of NY. Lumitone Press Photoprint Was in business from 1928 until 1958 and they published highly stylized view-cards in tinted halftone lithography with a dull flat pallet. Many of their cards were produced as dutones. In the 1930โ€™s they published a Colorpoeme series reproducing the views of New York created by artist Pierre Trapier. They are one of the few American publishers to exhibit a distinct Art Deco influence on their early graphics. These postcards were printed in the United States. The front of this card features a view of the Hotel and the surrounding buildings. Also pictured are pedestrians and vehicles in the streets; however, everything looks totally cartoon-like with the cars looking completely laughable. The colors are vibrant and rich, yet one can't look at the postcard and come away with any feeling but the fact that the view is so false and crudely drawn. This card is signed in the lower right corner, "A Danisoff" (artist?) in a hard to read red font which almost blends into the roadway over which it is printed. The back is a divided back postcard with the publisher's info serving as the division. At the bottom of the division is the Lumitone ware number, "21727". The top left contains the name and address of the hotel, and some of the amenities offered, as well as identifying the name and title of the General Manager. This card is unused and is in perfect condition with no corner creasing, furling or extraneous marks on the front or back of the card. This postcard will be the perfect addition to your collection of Hotels of New York City, commercial cards from New York, and Lumitone published postcards.
