Item description

We are pleased to offer for your consideration this great view of the Monument to the Races in Mexico City, Mexico on a black and white Real Picture Post Card (RPPC)which was taken in Mexico and developed on Mexican post card photo stock, as well. At one of the many circles or roundabouts in Mexico City stands the massive pyramidal Monumento a la Raza, a monument to the mingling of the European and Indian races built in 1964 by a team of sculptors under the direction of Luis Lelo de Larrea. Every year on October 12th, the date on which Columbus discovered the New World, the Dรญa de la Raza is celebrated here. Real Photo Postcards (RPPC's) are actual Black and White photographs which are developed onto card stock which is actually photo graphic paper only thicker and may contain on the back, all of the necessary printing for a postcard, including a stamp box, publisher's info and even a description of the view on the front. They were very popular during the 30's through the 50's because visitors and tourists could personalize their postcards by including themselves into the view. These cards tended to be unique and one of a kind although the views taken may very well be popular. The front of this card features a black and white view of One of Mexico City's most picturesque urban views, El Monumento a La Raza, or the Monument to the Race which celebrates Mexico's mixed cultural heritage. One gets a perspective of the size of this pyramid of the 20th Century by seeing the pair of people in the foreground. At the bottom, scratched into the negative is the caption, Monumento A La Raza followed by the country, Mexico. The back of the card is a divided back postcard with "Tarjeta Postal" at the top of the division. The postcard was mailed in the U.S. and postmarked, Philadelphia, PA in 1958. This card is in Good condition with one corner having a small crease and another having a tiny bit of the photographic layer chipped off. This card will be a wonderful addition to your collection of RPPC's, Real Photo cards made in other nations, Views of Mexico City or Mexico and the monuments of Mexico.
