Item description

We are pleased to offer for your consideration this really divided back Valentine's Day postcard which was published by the Owen Card Publishing Co. of Elmyra, New York, in 1920. Owen Card Publishing was in business from 1915 until 1927. They began business as Baker Brothers and had been local news dealers since the 1890โ€™s and began publishing postcards of regional views under there name in the early 20th century. Around 1915 they started up the Owen Card Publishing Company that specifically dealt with greeting and holiday cards. These cards were printed on a linen embossed paper and often contained large empty areas, a typical American design. The company later became involved with designing boxes for cards as well. While this card is not one of their Linens, it is a good example of their work. The front of this card reaches a little boy all dressed up and carrying a top hat in one hand and a bouquet in the other. The boy is looking into her window which has a lovely little girl inside. The caption reads, "wanted, a comforter.", followed by the verse, "my heart is troubled. Won't you please just fill it full of sweetheart's ease?". At the lower right, is the ware number, 615C. The back of the card is internally divided back card with most of the area devoted to the address. The upper left corner bears the publishers logo, and under that "the mark of distinction". At the bottom of the division is the publishers information. This card is postmarked February 13, 1920. This postcard is in excellent condition with some discoloration on the front as well as the back; there are slight corner bumps on all four corners and a barely noticeable crease along the right side. This card will make a wonderful addition to your collection of Valentine's Day cards featuring children and verses.
