Item description

We are pleased to offer for your consideration this interesting little Plaque, Novelty Panel Postcard, designed to be used as a hang up plaque with a motto or humorously portrayed, common sense saying. This particular card is supposed to represent a wise old Chinese Proverb (proverb number, 67.425), Why be unpleasant? When with just a little effort you can be a real stinker. With a few Asian looking characters to make it appear to be actually Chinese. This card is on fairly thick card stock, about 1/16" thick and both ends are die cut to appear zig-zag to resemble a broken board. There are two"knock-out" circles where the card can be hung up on hooks or nails for display. The card was made by Komic Kard in Japan. Such items were sold in novelty shops and roadside tourist stops alongside souvenirs of various places. They were mostly obtained as little gifts for children along with postcards for the adult members of the recipient's family. Sometimes they even had humorous comments about the place being visited, where the cards were sold. The front of the card features a buff colored background with a smaller cream colored section at the top center. the left bears four Asian styled writing characters (supposed to resemble Chinese but are actually Japanese). To the right of that is a "framed section" with a tiny skunk at the top. Within this framed section are the words, "Why be unpleasant? When with just a little effort you can be a REAL STINKER". along the bottom center is the claim, "Chinese Proverb #67.425". The back of the card is a divided back card, printed upside down from the front. at the top of the left is, "It's a Post Card" and at the top of the right is, "It's a Plak!". The right side addressee section is lined and the bottom of the division bears the Komic Kard Logo. The bottom left bears the "made in Japan" disclaimer. The stamp box is a simple rectangle with the numeral 3 inside it. This card is in excellent condition with a puncture in the top center where it was hung by one tack. The tack head created a ring indentation and a former owner apparently was a bit rough in removing the tack and left some dents in the card in this area. The card was never posted in the mail. This card will make a wonderful addition to your collection of novelty postcards, Humorous postcards, Novelty items from Japan and Komic Kard items.
