Item description

Peter Cottontail's Surprise:Birthdays;Rabbits;21 Full Color Frameable Illustrations by Bonnie Worth (Author), Greg Hildebrandt (Illustrator) Reading level: Ages 9-12 Hardcover: 44 pages Publisher: Unicorn Publishing House (March 1985) Language: English ISBN-10: 0881010650 ISBN-13: 978-0881010657 Product Dimensions: 10.3 x 8.3 x 0.5 inches From School Library Journal: Kindergarten-Grade 2 This extremely slight tale tells of Peter's urgent wish to greet the spring after a winter in his underground warren. Failing to get any of the busy family to join him, he emerges and scampers about, spending some of his excess energy. Finally he returns home to a surprise birthday party and then to bed, all tuckered out. A bit of the writing is lyrical but most is standard Golden Book stuff. The pictures, however, are more compelling. Full-page double-framed tempera-like paintings face white pages with a large serifed typeface. The effect is one of nostalgia, referring more to the illustrated books of the 1920s than to modern picture books. The images are composed like stage sets, the animals naturalistically rendered but anthropomorphic in behavior. More attention is paid to surface decoration than anatomical structure, with the result that the thoughtfully composed scenes are cute rather than character-evoking. Card catalog description: Peter Cottontail has a surprise birthday party. REVIEW: Cute as a... bunny???--Filled with wonderful glowing full page color illustrations. Hildebrandt's trademark of making his subjects pop of the page and giving them lustrous color and light make this tale a perfect object for his brush's attention. His depiction of both the underground world of rabbit tunnels and the above-ground world of sunshine and fields is magical. Another great rendition of the Peter Cottontail saga! EACH OF THE 21 ILLUSTRATIONS IN THIS BOOK COULD BE MATTED AND FRAMED. THEY ARE REALLY EXQUISITE! Owner's name is printed on front end page. Otherwise LIKE NEW-clean and unmarked. TIGHT BINDING, CLEAN PAGES, GLOSSY COVER. Peter Cottontail has a surprise birthday party. Unpaginated. Not an ex.library book. TEACHERS AND PARENTS: LOOKING FOR MORE GOOD DEALS ON CHILDRENS BOOKS?
