Item description

IS PROUD TO OFFER UP FORsale TODAY, THIS ORIGINAL VINTAGE WOOD AD MAT!!!! Presenting A VERY RARE MOVIE MOLD/LEAD FORM. The proper name is an "Ad Mat" or more specifically โ€œWOOD AD MAT" Many from my collection including this one have "Wood Ad Mat" stamped on the back. THIS IS FROM THE 1952 FILM "HANGMAN'S KNOT STARRING RANDOLPH SCOTT DONNA REED!! This is an EXTREMELY RARE and unusual item! How Rare??? I Challenge you to find another! Go ahead check it out.... you have the whole World Wide Web!! This is one of the rarest pieces of Movie Memorabilia you will ever find! THIS AD MAT IS IN MINT UNUSED CONDITION!!! Some of my customers include Museums located throughout the U.S.A. they have purchased similar Admat molds to exhibit. THE MOLD READS: "RANDOLPH SCOTT ....HANGMAN'S KNOT....WITH DONNA REED COLOR BY TECHNICOLOR.....A COLUMBIA PICTURE." This mold measures aprox. 5 1/2" X 2 1/4". It is in MINT UNUSED CONDITION! These molds are great conversation piece and they are RARE as the dickens! This would look outstanding framed in a shadowbox type frame. These are composed of a Wood Fiber....Please don't expect something made out of metal! Randolph Scott made more than 100 movies in his long career, usually playing square-jawed heroes. Scott mostly appeared in Westerns, and Hangman's Knot is no exception. There's a little twist in that he's playing a character that's not exactly squeaky clean, but this is otherwise exactly the sort of role one would expect from Scott. Hangman's Knot casts the venerable actor as Major Matt, the leader of a band of Confederate soldiers. As the movie opens, Matt and his crew are attacking a Union gold shipment - despite the fact that the war's been over for about a month (guess nobody bothered to tell them). Knowing full well he and his battalion will be hanged for murder, Matt decides to take some hostages and hole up inside a house while he thinks things over. It's not long before several bounty hunters show up, leaving Matt and the gang with little choice but to defend their newfound bunker. The film isn't quite as predictable as it sounds, though Matt's relationship with one of his hostages played by Donna Reed, is a bit tough to swallow. Fortunately, there's some real chemistry between the two actors, making their relationship a little more palatable. In terms of the film's action, it's just about what you might expect from a '50s Western (ie people clutch their chest and collapse upon being shot), though there's a fight sequence between Matt and one of his subordinates (played by Lee Marvin, in one of his first roles) that's surprisingly gritty. Hangman's Knot is surprisingly fast-paced for a film of this sort, and though there's an almost incoherent rain-soaked battle towards the end, the film essentially remains entertaining throughout. These "WOOD ADMATS" are really Molds/Lead Forms that were intended to have molten lead poured into to them create castings, and then discarded. This was the way that Newspaper ads, press book Ad Mats and various publications were produced up until the mid 1960's. Most newspapers were done via letterpress printing and utilized what is called hot type. The lead was melted and then used to type out words and imprint pictures. Pictures were usually in the form of one of these molds, which is composed of a wood fiber material specially, designed to accept the molten lead. Once cooled the casting was secured in the desired position in the letterpress, inked and paper placed on top of the lead casting. The press was then brought down under pressure and 'whala' a spiffy movie ad for a film coming to a theater near you! Electronic typesetting made this process obsolete over 40 years ago! Today's computers and technology make this process extremely efficient. The Extremely Fine artwork in this is just incredible! My picture just does not do it justice at all. ***There are many items ready to 'buy it now' in my eBay store!!!!*** To visit my store just click on the door! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Bid Now Don't miss out on this RARE item!!!!!! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * PLEASE REMEMBER TO CHECK OUT MY OTHER VINTAGE ADVERTISING ITEMS I HAVE UP FORsale THIS WEEK!!
