Description: From the original description: The picture of the Seal Rocks represents a very curious scene which the San Franciscan shows to all his friends. It is a view from the Cliff House, a hotel about six miles from the city, connected therewith by a wide boulevard. The outlook is towards the Pacific Oceanโ€”and a glorious outlook it is. In the foreground are these rocks, upon which the sea-lions or seals make their holiday, wriggling and clambering up the sides of the rocks after a fashion which partakes of the marvelous. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- USA Related Maps Anatomy Medicine Farming Hunting Botanical Mythology Arts Crafts Religion Fashion Occult Flags - Coins - Heraldry -- Custom Categories -- Africa Russia South America Oceania Far East India - Nepal European Views Middle East Italy Views Greek Roman Empire Animals Family - Love -Dogs Winter - Xmas -Cats Fair Ladies -Birds Nude in Art Military Etchings Ships Navy Hand Colored findamhist Powered by Turbo Lister The free listing tool. TURKEY Trebizond on Black Sea - 1887 Wood Engraving

Full_star_smallFull_star_smallFull_star_smallFull_star_smallFull_star_small

This old engraving has substantiated and stimulated a recent interest of mine; this physical thing now hangs in front of my reading chair, and I have found the digital copy of the charming old book from which it was cut (VOYAGES AND TRAVELS OR SCENES IN MANY LANDS VOLUME
de Colange, Leo (Ed.)).
Published by E.W. Walker, Boston, MA (1887))
I recommend enjoying some of the 19th century paintings under "Trabzon in art" in commons.wikipedia., which is where I first discovered this one. In some of these it is the artists viewpoint of serious (not ) peacefulness that I especially enjoy, and now this is substantiated, in front of my reading chair.
