Sally Goes to the Farm by Stephen Huneck Reading level: Baby-Preschool Hardcover: 40 pages Publisher: Harry N Abrams (April 1, 2002) Language: English ISBN: 0810944987 Product Dimensions: 12.3 x 11.2 x 0.6 inches Shipping Weight: 1.2 pounds. List Price: 17.95 With woodblock illustrations. DJ HAS 1" TEAR ON UPPER LEFT CORNER ON SPINE EDGE. Amazon.com We would follow Stephen Huneck's black Labrador, Sally, anywhere--to the beach, to the mountains, and certainly to the farm. The Sally books are wonderfully witty glimpses into the simple psyche of a dog, where exciting new smells and tastes reign supreme. Sally first meets the golden Lab Molly, and after a comical round of introductory sniffing, her new friend proceeds to introduce her to Bessie the cow, who squirts them with milk. The doggy duo then eats like pigs, horses around, plows a field, and narrowly escapes a goosing. Each oversized illustration explodes with generous, boldly colored woodcut prints, as Huneck artfully captures the gorgeous striped geometry of farmland and fences--along with amusing canine antics. Simple sentences in a large clear font (designed by the artist himself) ensure smooth sailing and happy endings for early readers, but adults will enjoy the dry humor of these books just as much as kids will. (Ages 2 to 6) From Publishers Weekly Energetic woodcuts and straightforward text combine for this trip to the farmyard with the charming black Lab that debuted in Sally Goes to the Beach Sally Goes to the Farm by Stephen Huneck. At home in the heartland, a country dog introduces Sally to her farm friends. From School Library Journal PreSchool-Grade 2-This book will delight fans of Huneck's earlier "Sally" titles. The spreads are large, visually interesting, and often humorous. The story follows the black Lab and her owner to the farm where she meets Molly, also a dog, and they explore sights, sounds, smells, and other animals. The humor and simple text are perfect for a read-aloud and are well matched to the bold woodcut illustrations, which have a folk-art quality. Huneck's distinct style is graphically pleasing, the design of the spreads is dramatic, and the pictures also tell the story. From Booklist PreS.-Gr. 2. The text is spare, but the pictures say a lot, humorously recording a dog's visit to a farm. Sally the dog meets Molly, another dog whose farm provides a host of delights. They romp together, checking out Bessie the cow and eating alongside Penelope the pig. Rope tug-of-war and a ride on the tractor follow, and the day is capped off with a pie foolishly left within a dog's reach. The large pictures are simply composed and graphically crisp. Colored shapes defined with uncomplicated cross-hatching lead the eye unerringly from one bold spread to the next. Dog lovers and children will recognize fun when they see it--this is sure to raise chuckles all around. Book Description Sally, Stephen Huneck's endearing black Lab, is off on another adventure, this time to America's heartland. She has never been on a farm before, so she has a lot to learn. But with the help of a golden retriever named Molly, Sally takes to country life like a duck takes to water. She helps milk a cow, plow the fields, and eat fresh apple pie! Sally is as fetching as ever in Huneck's playful story and distinctive woodcut prints. Card catalog description Sally, a black Labrador retriever, goes to a farm where she enjoys various activities. Synopsis: Sally the black Labrador Retriever scampers away on a trip to a farm. She meets Molly, a Golden Retriever, and together they sniff the smells of the barnyard, steal some cows milk, and slumber in a hammock. About the Author Stephen Huneck's first children's book, Sally Goes to the Beach, was a New York Times bestseller, and School Library Journal said about Sally Goes to the Mountains, "A beautifully illustrated picture book, easy enough for beginning readers." Huneck has been featured on Today and Oprah as well as in USA Today, Newsweek, and People. He, his wife, Gwen, and Sally live in Vermont. This book is for dog lovers and kids. Its great pictures and simple phrases exactly describes what our black lab does (right down to the 'worried' look on her face!), and therefore we found this book very funny. However we have shown this book to non dog lovers. They just give polite smiles/puzzled looks and change the subject!! So I guess if you know what catagory your in you'll know whether or not this book is for you! The Best Book Yet in Huneck's Series!, February 27, 2002 Reviewer: A Satisfied Reader (Vermont USA) Delightful! Colorful! Enchanting! Stephen Huneck knows exactly what dogs think and what they love to do! Sally has certainly been on some wonderful adventures, to the beach and to the mountains, but going to the farm is just the most humorous and delightful story yet. The artist's charm and wit is magical. Everyone will love this book! And the woodcut prints that illustrate the books are absolutley fabulous! Anyone with a love for dogs, colorful art, or humor should buy this book. Powered by eBay Turbo Lister The free listing tool. List your items fast and easy and manage your active items.
