Item description

Susan Witt’s Classics for Needlepoint; published by Oxmoor House, Inc. Copyright 1981 by Oxmoor House, Inc. Book Division of Southern Progress Corporation. ISBN 0-8487-0525-4. Hard cover, with dust jacket. Stated First Printing: 1981. 8.75" x 11.25" tall - 122 pages beautifully illustrated with color photographs (by Mac Jameison, John O’Hagan, Mike Clemmer, and Charles Walton) and b/w illustrations (by Steve Logan and Don Smith). Cloth-covered book is in very good condition â“ no inscriptions or markings. The clipped dust jacket has some tears (longest of which is 1.5 inches) and chipping; front has crease (see picture). From the jacket: Classics for Needlepoint presents original designs, basic and decorative stitches, and a new "count and mark" method for transferring charted designs to needlepoint canvas. You’ll find the diagrams and instructions easy to follow. Each of Ms. Witt’s striking designs is featured individually within 32 pages of color photographs, and many of the motifs are grouped in room settings to illustrate the deliberate compatibility of her motifs and colors. . . . The 28 designs are conveniently grouped by the complexity of the stitches involved. "Basically Basketweave" offers fourteen designs that display the characteristic flat look that we normally associate with needlepoint. "Basketweave Plus" features designs that are worked predominantly in basketweave but that have areas of decorative stitches for an added dramatic effect. "Multiple Stitches" presents sampler designs with such a variety of decorative stitches that they are valued not only for their striking textural complexities, but also for their potential as practice designs to help perfect your stitch techniques. "Bargello Borders" includes four-way bargello and interchangeable bargello borders to complete the series of the design chapters. A "Portfolio of Stitches" includes a diagram for working each of the 19 basic and decorative stitches used in the designs in Classics for Needlepoint. Ms. Witt shares her secrets . . . The author’s special count and mark technique â“ a unique way to work from a charted design â“ enables both beginner and experienced needleworker to achieve professional-looking results.
