Item description

The First ... ... Quarrel by Henry Hutt Turn of the Century American Aritist Print - These 2 beautiful 1908 vintage original portfolio plates by Henry Hutt are stunning with their muted colors and balance. The two images from two pages of the salvaged book. We are happy to bring both prints together because they compliment each other very well. These antique plates are portraits from a rare book exclusively produced of Henry Hutt's work. They are printed on very thick, first quality paper card stock. Age-toned along the edges. Light finger smudges prsent and an extremely small stain near bottom right page edge. Near the bottom of both portraits is printed the signature of HENRY HUTT, followed by the copyright publisher's information. The name of portraits appear midpage at the base of the image. Additional Print Information ..... Both portaits were published in different years by different publication companies. How well they blend together. Hutt intentionally presented the portaits in the volume in the above layout. The First ... Copyright, 1905, by The Metropolitan Magazine Company. Signed by Hutt in lower left corner. This plate has an image on the back. ... Quarrel Copyright, 1906, by The Butterick Publishing Company. Signed by Hutt in lower right corner. This plate has an image on the back. American artist Henry Hutt was born in Chicago, Illinois to German parents in 1875. Sold his first illustration at 16 years old. A popular illustrator for the Saturday Evening Post, Life magazine, The Century Magazine as well as Harpers. He also painted portraits for the well heeled of modern day society of the early 1900's. His name was a household name in high society and artist circles at the turn of the last century. A true American treasure. His prints from magazines and books are highly collectible and still a great value with price ranges from 80 - 350 US depending on the color, quality and subject matter of the print. "The 'Henry Hutt girl' is a distinct type and in the matter of reflecting the latest styles it can be said without fear of dispute that she is the best dressed woman to be found anywhere...She usually looks sleek and well-nurtured and is for the most part a normal, healthy creature, clean of outline, as of mind, and with well-modeled features. All the world loves a pretty girl and so quite evidently does Mr. Hutt..." Editorial from The Century Publishers on Henry Hutt, 1908.
