Item description

The Little Red Dragon by Estelle Urbahns 1947 E. P. Dutton The Little Red Dragon Estelle Urbahns New York: E.P. Dutton Co., 1947 First edition 64 pages Illustrated by Weda Yap ex school library The pages are clean but tanning, there are library markings on the front end paper. The binding is starting to weaken, but all the pages are present and attached. The cover shows wear at the corners and spine ends. Acceptable. Hardcover. A night watchman, threading his way along Pottery-Making Street, struck his musical gong and called lustily, "It is the Hour of the Dog and eastward blows the wind." Chang, the Potter, and his adopted son, Chang Fen, were closing the panels of the shop. Though Chang's words sometimes cut like the lash of a bamboo whipping rod, his voice was gentle as he turned to the boy and spoke behind his hand, "O-yo! Limping One, the Hour of the Dog brings darkness at this time of year, and the young moon has set. Therefore, since no curious eye can now watch what we do, I shall take you into the garden back of my shop, for you must learn where my ancient treasures are buried. The one which is concealed in my garden path beneath the ninth flagstone, I treasure above all my hidden possessions. I would have you see it. This night I would teach you how to take it from its secret place in the earth, for you are now my son." (#0000154)
