This is the History of Greece, when the Peloponnesian War took place in 431 - 404 B.C. between Athens and Sparta. Thucydides was an Athenian Greek who wrote the history of the war between the Peloponnesians and the Athenians, beginning at the moment that it broke out in the spring of 431 B.C. Thucydides (c. 460 b.c. - 400 b.c.) was a General who was exiled for his failure to defend the Greek city of Amphipolis in Thrace. During his exile, he began compiling histories and accounts of the war. He was very accurate when writing this factual record of the horrific conflict that eventually ended the Athenian empire. The conflicts between the two empires of Athens and Sparta over shipping, trade, and expansion, came to war in 431 B.C. in Northern Greece. The entire Greek world was plunged into 27 years of war. Sparta emerged victorious, and dominated Greece for several decades. A Wonderful History of the Ancient Greek War between Athens and Sparta, for your Library of Collectible Books!
