Item description

THE WONDERS OF ALGAE By Lucy Kavaler Illustrated with Photographs Drawings By: Barbara Amlick Richard Ott Ex-Library Book. Copyright: 1961 . No Edition stated. Published by The John Day Company. 96 Pages. Book Boards are in Fair condition with some edge, corner shelf wear. Has had the first inside page removed has several stamps markings. Pages are Clean, Intact Tight. No Dustjacket. From the Flyleaf piece glued on the back inside board: Algae are the most primative form of life on earth, yet they are uniquely suited to the space age. This book tells of their many uses today and in the world of the future. Most exciting of algae's many possibilities are as a never-ending scource of oxygen and food in space ships and atomic submarines, and as an aid to conquest of world hunger. These organisms, which we most commonly see as tiny one-celled plants making up the green scum on ponds, are not something we would ordinarily think of eating; but, processed and flavored, they taste surprisingly good. Additional chapters cover research into algae as fuel, as medicine, as an industrial raw material, and in other uses. Multiple orders add .50 Per Book for combined shipping costs.
