Item description

US Navy Carriers: Weapons Of War (#3 in the Series), DVD Booklet This is a one-hour documentary about US Navy carriers since their inception after World War 1. It covers most of the important historical aspects of carrier aviation in the US Navy, and if you aren't very familiar with our Navy it is a fair overview to start with. An entertaining short documentary, which paints in broad strokes, the history of US Navy aircraft carriers. Packed with combat action from key conflicts, this DVD traces the fascinating rise of the biggest warships the world has ever known. Find out how US air power evolved from early biplanes landing on converted battleships to sophisticated warplanes on enormous modern super carriers. Discover everything you need to know about the most powerful and flexible war machines in existence, and why the first question the President is likely to ask in an international crisis is, "Where is the nearest carrier?" Very nicely selected and edited historical film footage, some of which I don't recall seeing before. Included with the package is a well illustrated and laid out 26 page booklet, which is almost as informative as the video itself. If there is a weak point, it would be the narration. It sounds more like a sports caster or Navy recruiter than a serious documentary. This pleasant opus is perfect for entry level audiences who know very little about carrier history, or who enjoy reminesing about US military power. It is especially entertaining for young minds. Even those seasoned sea-dogs expecting a far meatier presentation, will be able to watch it occasionally without feeling like they wasted an hour of their life. After the Christmas Day had settled down, he and I watched it and felt like we were doing the father and son bonding. My father is 35 1/2 years Navy as an Air Traffic Control-man and served on the USS Coral Sea. I am 20 years retired Army and some knowledge of our Navy Carriers. I dealt mainly with gun ships, because the type of job I was in. He loved the DVD and the story it told. I am going to look for more like it.
