Item Description

Cash Family hand painted art ware Clinchfield Erwin, Tennessee circa 1950s ridged barrel pitcher Abby jug shape 6" high by 6" wide with 2.75" base very good used condition shipping weight 3 lbs This is a lovely hand painted pitcher sold by the Cash Family Pottery of Erwin, Tennessee. The company was started in 1945 by Ray and Pauline Cash. Ray had worked at the Blue Ridge Southern Potteries, Inc before WW II and had learned much about the pottery business there. They called their company Clinchfield Artware Pottery. This lovely 6" high pitcher is a good example of the type of hand painted underglaze art wares that they produced. Very similar in design to Blue Ridge pieces, some of the artists who worked for the Cash family had also worked at Southern Potteries, Inc. The shape of this piece, with its deeply sculpted ridges, is identical to the Abby jug shape that was sold by Southern Potteries, Inc. The floral pattern is done in shades of yellow green and brown. The handle and the rim are sponge painted. The pitcher is in very good used condition and is free of chips and cracks. I can feel a little rough spot at the spout and it looks like a tiny flake of glaze is missing there. There is overall crazing in the glaze which is expected in this type of art pottery. Thank you for looking.
