Item description

Vintage Ransburg stoneware cookie jar. Hard to find Gold color with the cold painted aster flowers. Jar is unmarked but original Ransburg pieces were often marked only with a foil sticker. This cookie jar is referred to as the Model 700 or round ball cookie jar with the tripod feet. Interior has the white glazed finish. It measures about 9 inches in diameter, is about 9 1/2 inches tall with the lid and 7 3/4 inches tall without the lid. Holds 5 quarts. Typical vintage wear for cold painted items. There is some loss of paint and some rubs, a little flaking on one foot. Hard to find the Gold with the matching lid. This one however has been repaired and the glue has turned brown. There are several small chips on the edge of the lid. The Depression changed consumers' buying habits, reducing demand for decorated candles and fine glassware. An attractive but inexpensive alternative was decorated stoneware. From the 1930s to the late 1960s, the Ransburg Company focused on producing hand-decorated stoneware and also metalware products. Cheerful colors and patterns graced Ransburg products. Items were painted mainly yellow, blue, black, white, cream, green, and red. Once a pattern was approved, trained decorators hand painted each cookie jar on the production line. Most competitors did not invest this same amount of time and money in training and were unable to match Ransburg quality. Please supersize all pictures for best details.
