Item description

We are pleased to offer for you consideration this like new, black and white Postcard view with a white border of Mt Vernon which was published in 1938, by the Mount Vernon Ladies Association of the Union. The Mount Vernon Ladies Association of the Union was founded in 1853 to preserve the home and tomb of George Washington, our Nation's first president and commanding General of the Revolutionary War. They are also responsible for the printing and distribution of the various paper ephemera and other souvenirs which are available in the area. Mount Vernon, the home of George and Martha Washington, is the most popular historic estate in America. Situated along the Potomac River in Northern Virginia, Mount Vernon is just 16 miles south of Washington, D.C. For more than 40 years, George and Martha Washington called Mount Vernon home. The mansion is built of wood in neoclassical Georgian architectural style, and the estate is located on the banks of the Potomac River. Mount Vernon was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is owned and maintained in trust by The Mount Vernon Ladies' Association and is open every day of the year. The front of this card features a black and white view of the mansions and its lawn with a white border. At the bottom right is the copyright 1938 M.V.L.A.. The back is a divided back postcard with a plain stamp box. At the top left is a one line description of the view on the front and the bottom left bears the information about the Mount Vernon Ladies Association. This card is near mint condition with only a ripple crease visible on the back. The card was never posted in the mail and the corners are crisp and sharp and no stray marks are on the card any where. This card has been wonderfully taken care of and is a true hard to find item in such good condition. This card will be the perfect addition to any collection of George Washington memorabilia, Mt. Vernon memorabilia, views of Virginia's Historic sites and material which was published by the M.V.L.A. over the years.
