What brand offers a good, affordable vegetable/meat dehydrator?

Hi, y’all, I am trying to find out what brand makes an affordable, reliable dehydrator that can be used to dehydrate vegetables and meat strips.

Also, for those who have done this, I have not. Do you dehydrate the vegetables & meat raw or cooked?

I am looking to make my own dog treats, as dog treats can be expensive when you need healthy, non sugar treats for pets with diabetes.

Thanks in advance!

i have a a sunbeam and ive had it for prolly 10 years and never had a problem with it. it came with 5 racks and i bought 2 extras.

when i do jerky, its raw and so are the fruits and veggies. i use it ALOT, especially when my fruit trees go wild and the garden starts pumping out goodies! i love my dehydrator!!

I am looking for one too. What are the trays made of?

You didn’t ask this, but a friend of mine got their
dehydrator from freecycle or CL about a year ago.
She saved a ton of money by doing it that way.

Good Luck

I bought a Excalibur Dehydrator a while back. Model #3900. It has 9 large trays. There are cheaper brands out there, but this has been the best for me so far. I have had 2 others previously and like this one the best.

They do make smaller ones than the #3900 that are cheaper. It depends on how much you want to make at one time.

I have been dehydrating for years. Vegetables and meat are dehytrated raw. It is really like a low, low, low oven. I have done many types of vegetables and make venison and beef jerky often.

You can’t go wrong with the Excallibur!! Following is the web address where the Excalibur #3900 and the smaller versions can be found.

Good luck!!!

I have used many and find nothing beats the old fashioned metal one with drawers. Can’t for the life of me remember if it even had a brand on it. You do them up raw.

The Excalibur brand is the best. Nesco wasnt bad for a cheap one, and I have gone through 2 Sunbeams. I am not rough with electrical items—I have a 24 year old television and a 20 year old hair dryer, but the Sunbeam products and I do not get along…

My sister and her hubby have a Mr Coffee dehydrator and they use it all the time. They love their machine and are continually making jerky and dried veggies. I think whatever unit you get you’ll be glad you did.

I have had my Ronco Food Dehyrators for about 20+ years and love them

I actually have a food dehydrator in my booth that is really good. I actually own one myself, and it works well. I love beef jerky, turkey jerky, dried apple and banana rings.
