Why am i forced to rip off a buyer in order to ship the package?

I have this problem, I list LARGR HEAVY items that cost a lot to ship and my buyers know that shipping will be a lot, but I cannot send an invoice because of some INSANE policy that DEMANDS that the shipping cost be within 30% or $15.00 of the item price.

I have a $50.00 item that is 34×22×3 inches and weighs 10 pounds and that means a $39.00 shipping cost.

The CRAZY Bonanza suggestion is that I raise the price of the item and lower the shipping cost, keeping the total the same, but since there is a SALES TAX, that increases the tax a buyer has to pay. Also, the invoice does not allow me to change the purchase price, only the shipping costs.

Bonanza has not responded to my need for help and a NEW buyer is not happy with this nonsense and wants his item.

Maybe, I should just tell him to cancel and list it somewhere else that is USER FRIENDLY and let him buy it there.

I get no help from Bonanza.

I never realized such a policy exists here. I dont ship items NOW that go over 1 cubic feet since the PO enacted its cost prohibitive Dimension pricing policy. Good Luck.

I get stuck with that for international sales…item costs like $15 but shipping costs $25.00+ to ship..when someone asks for me to ship to an area I have not had set-up for international….

Bonanza’s suggestions to me were to create and invoice and send it to the buyer..

Selling Dashboard
Orders
Create Invoice

Tell the buyer that shipping cannot be added as is and that you are sending an invoice.

Once confirmed they received invoice..cancel the OBO..

This rule was set up..to stop those who sell an item for way below cost and then charge 3xs what it would cost to ship…. (a habit that was once very common among some sellers)

Contact your customer, let them know the situation and just simply send them a Paypal invoice. Once payment is received mark your item as such. Had to do this several times back when I shipped International orders.

That worked perfectly, first time I sent a PayPal invoice. Told the buyer to ignore the Bonanza invoice and just pay the PayPal one. Had to send the Bonanza invoice to get access to the ability to mark it paid and shipped. I have another buyer than wants these and now I know how to do it.

I’ve also had this issue with an international order. I’ll remember the “paypal invoicing” if it happens again!

I’ve run into this policy before as well, and it’s not a good one. It should go. My items are available for local pickup, so changing the item price is not an option. And it isn’t something I’d want to do, anyway. All I personally want is the ability to be honest and up-front with my customers.

“This is how much the item costs.”
“This is how much shipping costs.”

Period. No games.

Just my two cents.

Agree 100%

If You send him a separate PayPal invoice for $24 shipping cost, how would it impact his tax?

Or adding here a second listing for this amount, with a title “Shipping charge for X.Y.” (I believe Bonanza could/would waive its fee in this particular case).

Bonanza’s suggestion was to RAISE the price of the item by $30.00 to $90.00 and lower the chipping cost by $30.00 to get past the block. That would have the buyer paying sales tax on a $90.00 item instead of a $50.00 item.

I am not familiar with this as I have only been selling smaller or lighter items, however… it doesn’t sound like something that Bonanza should keep. Seems to be a troublesome and useless feature. I don’t blame you for being against this. I would be too.
